Mission Statement

Galway Head Injury Support Group provides support, infbrmation, and counselling for families of people with Brain Injury. We continue to highlight the special needs offamiies where there is a Brain Injury, and advocate for recognition of these needs to government bodies and health care professionals.

The Gaiway Head Injury Support Group was set up in July 1999 as a result of a group of concerned families getting together to discuss the lack of services for people with brain injury living in the ‘Western Region. It soon became evident that a vital role of this group was to provide care and support to the actual carers.
Galway Head Injury is a unique group in that the service they provide has been directly established to enhance the quality of lives of the vital carers of people with a head injury. These people are on the front line and are constantly having to readapt their lives to cope with the impact of brain injury.

If you are feeling overwhelmed by what you are experiencing at present we co-ordinate a monthly Support Group Network meeting. This takes place on the second Tuesday of each month at city and county locations. Guest Speakers attend these meetings and give talks on Head Injury related topics with discussion afterwards. It’s a great opportunity to meet other people who have experienced what you are going through. Galway Head Injury Support Group also offers telephone advice available to you during office hours. This includes linking and referring you to specialist local services, financial entitlements, respite care and group counselling.
